The DJI O4 Ground Station removes the main bottleneck in automated drone operations: signal coverage. In a mission flown from a DJI Dock and DJI FlightHub 2, it’s no longer the aircraft that limits the flight but the range and stability of the video link: obstacles, terrain and distance create blind spots that interrupt the feed and shrink your operating radius. Deployed as a relay or a cloud gateway, the O4 Ground Station extends that coverage dramatically: your drones fly farther, in more places, with a reliable link. Real example: in a dense urban environment a dock alone reached 4.2 km; with an O4 Ground Station placed on a high point, range extended beyond 11 km with full signal maintained.
Gateway Mode: deploy stations where your drones fly
Until now, each relay station was bound to a single dock and had to stay within 1 km line-of-sight. The new Gateway Mode removes that constraint: the station connects directly to the FlightHub 2 cloud (Ethernet/PoE, or 4G via the DJI Cellular Dongle 2), with no dock binding.
- No distance or line-of-sight constraint with the dock: place the station where coverage matters, not where the dock sits.
- Select on the fly: before each mission, pick the station nearest the flight area. Combine multiple docks and stations for full-grid coverage with no blind spots.
- Dedicated, stable bandwidth for the drone and better high-altitude coverage targeted to your operating zone, with no private 4G deployment.
Relay Mode: extend the dock’s range, even without a network
In Relay Mode the station acts as a remote antenna for the dock. Mounted high (tower, rooftop, ridge) within about 1 km, it dramatically expands the dock’s transmission area, which is particularly effective near structures that block the signal. Key advantage: no internet connection required, PoE power alone is enough. It’s the ideal solution for remote, low-coverage sites, in full compatibility with D-RTK 3 workflows.
Up to 25 km of range under CE: fewer blind spots, entire sites covered
The high-performance RF unit delivers significantly greater signal penetration and range than the D-RTK 3 (about +3 dB average and up to +6 dB peak receive gain at 5.8 GHz). The 12-antenna array with horizontal and vertical polarization provides omnidirectional, high-gain coverage: the link stays stable whatever the drone’s heading. Automatic multi-band selection (sub2G / 2.4 / 5.2 / 5.8 GHz) pushes maximum range to 25 km under CE (up to 40 km under FCC/IC) with a compatible sub2G aircraft such as the Matrice 400, while the 5-system, 19-frequency GNSS ensures centimeter-level positioning. For you: cover large or linear sites (reservoirs, pipelines, borders, large campuses) with fewer stations, and keep the link where it used to drop.
Signal Map: deploy in the right spot, based on real data
FlightHub 2 builds a hexagonal coverage map (color-graded signal strength) from your actual flight data, refreshed after every mission. In the Virtual Cockpit, the pilot is warned away from weak-signal zones. In practice: you place stations where they truly help, reduce aborted flights and make routes safer, all from measurements and not guesswork.
Airspace safety: RID & ADS-B receiver
Through ESDK 2.0, the O4 Ground Station can host an RID & ADS-B receiver that detects nearby drones and manned aircraft in real time, with configurable alerts and detection range. A major asset for situational awareness and beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) safety, especially on security and infrastructure-surveillance missions.
Third-party cameras: drones and fixed cameras in one platform
Connect your ONVIF-compatible IP cameras to FlightHub 2 through the station: live view, PTZ control, zoom, motion detection and alerts. You unify fixed surveillance and drones in a single operations interface and make the most of your existing camera infrastructure, for a complete picture of the site.
M400 Delivery Mode: open up drone logistics
The O4 Ground Station supports the Matrice 400 delivery mode: cargo-transport missions, multi-waypoint routes and remote dispatch via FlightHub 2. It addresses high-value use cases (medical and sample transport, document or parcel delivery, hard-to-reach sites) faster and at lower cost than ground transport.
Reliable in any weather, around the clock, off-grid
- IP67 and IK07: sealed and impact-resistant for permanent outdoor installation.
- -40°C to 55°C and up to 6,000 m altitude (-40°C requires a high-power heated PoE supply).
- Self-recovery: automatic restart and recovery after a fault or power loss, for fewer site visits.
- Smart low-power mode (7 W standby) and solar compatibility: long-term, autonomous deployments where there is no network or mains power.
Deployment example: full coverage of a reservoir
In a case documented by DJI, 1 dock + 3 O4 Ground Stations cover a reservoir of about 250 km² and 58 km of shoreline that was previously full of blind spots. The result: a complete inspection round in 20 minutes (versus manual patrols that couldn’t cover it in a day), inspection efficiency up by over 80% and labor cost down by 70%.
O4 Ground Station vs D-RTK 3
Compared with the D-RTK 3 Multifunctional Station, the O4 Ground Station delivers greater range and signal penetration, goes from 4 to 12 antennas, and adds the sub2G band, Gateway Mode, third-party camera support, RID & ADS-B and smart low-power mode. A direct upgrade for anyone who needs more coverage, more flexibility and more capabilities.
