The DJI O4 Ground Station removes the main obstacle to automated drone operations: signal coverage. In a mission piloted from a DJI Dock and DJI FlightHub 2, it is no longer the aircraft that limits the flight but the range and stability of the video link: obstacles, relief and distance create shadow areas that interrupt the flow and reduce the range of action. Deployed as a relay or cloud gateway, the O4 Ground Station extends this coverage dramatically: your drones fly farther, in more places, with a reliable link. A concrete example : in a dense urban environment, a dock alone reached 4.2 km; with an O4 Ground Station placed high up, the range has been extended to more than 11 km while maintaining a full signal.
Gateway Mode: Deploy your stations where your drones fly
Until now, each relay station was paired with a single dock and had to remain less than 1 km away in direct line. The new Gateway mode removes this constraint: the station connects directly to the FlightHub 2 cloud (Ethernet/PoE, or 4G via the DJI Cellular Dongle 2), without any pairing to a dock.
- No distance or line of sight constraints from the dock: position the station where coverage is needed, not where the dock is.
- On-the-fly selection : Before each mission, choose the station closest to the flight area. Combine multiple docks and stations for mesh coverage with no blind spots.
- Dedicated and stable bandwidth for the drone, better coverage at altitude targeted on your area of operation, without private 4G deployment.
Relay Mode: Extend the range of the dock, even without a network
In Relay mode, the station acts as a remote antenna from the dock. Installed at a height (pylon, roof, ridge) at about 1 km, it increases the transmission area of the dock tenfold, which is particularly effective near structures that block the signal. Key advantage: no internet connection is required, a simple PoE power supply is sufficient. It is the ideal solution for remote sites with poor network coverage, fully compatible with D-RTK 3 workflows.
Up to 25 km range in CE: fewer blind spots, entire sites covered
The high-performance RF unit offers significantly higher signal penetration and range than the D-RTK 3 (receive gain of approximately +3 dB on average and up to +6 dB peak at 5.8 GHz). The array of 12 horizontally and vertically polarized antennas provides high-gain omnidirectional coverage: the link remains stable regardless of the droneโs orientation. Automatic multi-band selection (sub2G / 2.4 / 5.2 / 5.8 GHz) pushes the maximum range to 25 km in CE (up to 40 km under FCC/IC standards) with a compatible sub2G device like the Matrice 400, while 5-system/19-frequency GNSS ensures centimeter positioning. For you : Cover large or linear sites (reservoirs, pipelines, borders, large campuses) with fewer stations, and keep the link where it used to drop.
Signal Map: deploy in the right place, based on real data
FlightHub 2 builds a hexagonal coverage map (signal strength in color gradient) from your real flight data, updated after each mission. In the virtual cockpit, the pilot is warned to avoid areas of weak signal. In concrete terms : you place your stations where they really work, you reduce aborted flights and you secure your trajectories, all based on measurements and not on estimates.
Airspace Safety: RID & ADS-B Receiver
Via ESDK 2.0, the O4 Ground Station can integrate a RID & ADS-B receiver that detects nearby drones and manned aircraft in real time, with configurable alerts and detection radius. This is a major asset for situational awareness and safety of out-of-sight flights (BVLOS), in particular on security and infrastructure surveillance missions.
Third-party cameras: drones and fixed cameras in a single platform
Connect your ONVIF-enabled IP cameras to FlightHub 2 via the station: live viewing, PTZ control, zoom, motion detection and alerts. You unify your fixed video surveillance and your drones in a single operational interface and enhance the camera infrastructure already in place, for a complete overview of the field.
M400 delivery mode: open up logistics by drone
The O4 Ground Station supports the Matrice 400โs delivery mode : load-carrying missions, multi-point routes, and remote dispatch via FlightHub 2. This will address high-value use cases (medical and sample transport, delivery of documents or packages, hard-to-reach sites) faster and at a lower cost than ground transport.
Reliable in all weathers, continuous and off-grid operation

Example of deployment: full coverage of a tank
In a case documented by DJI, 1 dock + 3 O4 Ground Stations are enough to cover a reservoir of about 250 kmยฒ and 58 km of banks, until now full of shaded areas. The result: a complete inspection round in 20 minutes (compared to manual monitoring unable to cover everything in one day), improved inspection efficiency by more than 80%, and a 70% reduction in labor costs.
