DJI Matrice 400 – Long-endurance professional drone, 6 kg payload
The Matrice 400 in short
A long-endurance enterprise platform: 15.8 kg at take-off, up to 6 kg of payload and up to 7 payloads at once, with an obstacle avoidance system capable of detecting a high-voltage power line. Class C3 in standard configuration.
What the Matrice 400 changes compared with the Matrice 350
| Matrice 350 RTK | Matrice 400 | |
|---|---|---|
| Effective flight time per mission | baseline | nearly 50% higher (DJI rates up to 59 minutes of forward flight, payload included) |
| Payload | baseline | 6 kg, more than double |
| Simultaneous payloads | up to 7, via 4 external E-Port V2 ports | |
| Mapping mission speed | baseline | 25 m/s, a 60% increase |
| Transmission | O4 Enterprise, 20 km CE and 40 km FCC, extra sub-2G band, dual 4G dongle | |
| Obstacle detection | rotating LiDAR, millimetre-wave radar, low-light fisheye colour sensors |
One point worth knowing before you order: Matrice 350 and Matrice 400 accessories are not interchangeable, in either direction. If you operate an M350 fleet, nothing carries over. It’s the question DJI gets asked most often about this aircraft.
Flight time: the number and its conditions
DJI rates the Matrice 400 at 59 minutes of forward flight and 53 minutes hovering. Both figures are measured with an H30T gimbal fitted, for a total weight of 10,670 g, at 10 m/s, no wind, at sea level, battery from 100% to 0%.
That detail works in the aircraft’s favour: the published flight time already accounts for a loaded machine, not an empty one.
Payload
6 kg maximum, measured at the third gimbal connector at sea level. Configuration is flexible: a single gimbal in the low position, dual low-mounted gimbals, or a third connector under the fuselage. Four external E-Port V2 ports allow up to 7 payloads to be mounted at the same time.
This capacity opens up combinations of camera, spotlight and speaker on a single mission, and leaves room for third-party PSDK integrations.
Power line-level obstacle avoidance
Three technologies work together: a rotating LiDAR for omnidirectional detection, a high-precision millimetre-wave radar, and fisheye colour vision sensors that work in low light.
Together they detect obstacles as thin as a high-voltage power line, over mountainous terrain and at night. Obstacle avoidance remains active up to 25 m/s, the aircraft’s top speed.
Transmission and connectivity
O4 Enterprise system, 20 km under CE, SRRC and MIC, 40 km under FCC. An extra sub-2G band and support for two 4G dongles add redundancy, improving resistance to interference.
The Matrice 400 carries a built-in transmission relay module: it can relay signal for another Matrice 400, as well as for a Matrice 4E or 4T. That’s a direct answer to signal loss in areas with difficult terrain.
Features that change how a mission runs
- Ship take-off and landing: take off from a stationary vessel, land on a moving one.
- Real-time terrain following and power line tracking: faster large-area mapping and point cloud capture along power lines.
- Intelligent flight modes: Cruise, FlyTo, Smart Track, POI, AR projection, slope and geometric routes, smart detection with the H30T.
CE classes: what the Matrice 400 unlocks, and how to go further
| Configuration | Class | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Matrice 400 as delivered | C3 | Open category, subcategory A3 |
| Matrice 400 + AP100 parachute fitted | C5 | standard scenario STS-01, visual line of sight |
| Matrice 400 (C6) Worry-Free Plus Combo, or DJI recertification | C6 | standard scenario STS-02, beyond visual line of sight |
Class is a condition, not an authorization: flying a standard scenario also requires an operator declaration, a remote pilot holding the matching certificate of competency, and a current operations manual. STS-02 additionally requires a controlled ground area in a sparsely populated environment.
For any Matrice 400 purchased from Drone Parts Center, we take care of this upgrade. The aircraft and the parachute are sent to DJI After-Sales for inspection, a firmware update, application of the C3+C6 label and the declaration of conformity. Allow one to two weeks, mostly logistics.

Frequently asked questions
Can I reuse my Matrice 350 accessories?
No. DJI confirms that Matrice 400 and Matrice 350 accessories are not compatible in either direction.
Is the 59-minute figure without payload?
No, it is measured with an H30T gimbal fitted. A heavier payload reduces flight time.
Is the Matrice 400 delivered in class C6?
No, it is certified C3 as delivered. Class C5 is obtained by fitting the AP100 parachute, class C6 through the factory combo or through the DJI recertification programme.
What is the real-world range in Europe?
20 km under the CE configuration, in open terrain with no interference. The 40 km figure applies to the FCC regulation, outside the European Union.
Can it relay signal for another drone?
Yes. Its built-in transmission module can relay signal for another Matrice 400, as well as for a Matrice 4E or 4T.
What is the delivery time?
48 to 72 working hours, shipped from Nivelles.
Good to know
Accessories are not interchangeable with the Matrice 350: batteries, charging station and gimbals need to be budgeted separately if you are coming from that generation. The RC Plus 2 Enterprise Enhanced remote controller does not support the Matrice 350 RTK, the Mavic 3 Enterprise series or the Matrice 3D Enterprise series.
Performance figures are measured in a controlled environment; real-world use varies with payload, wind and altitude.
