Water sampling where boats cannot go

Settling ponds, lagoons, rivers in flood, reservoirs, contaminated or hard-to-reach areas: the Speedip V2+ takes a water sample from the air. The operator stays at a distance, the drone positions itself over the chosen GPS point, and the mission can be fully automated with waypoints in DJI Pilot 2. The system is designed for water network operators, environmental consultancies, public services and laboratories.

How a sampling run works

• The drone hovers above the water: 2 to 6 m for the Matrice 400, 3 to 4 m for the Matrice 350 / 300.
• The operator sets the depth, in manual or automatic mode, then starts the descent. The container opens on the way down.
• At the chosen depth, or on contact with the bottom detected through cable tension, the container fills and closes when it stops or starts to rise.
• The winch raises the container at up to 0.17 m/s; an indicator light shows each phase. The drone must not descend while the container is deployed.
• Back on the ground, the sample is transferred to the laboratory bottle. The container is changed one-handed, with a quick-release button.

Flight and sample safety

A 2 MP starlight camera faces downwards and shows the operation live in DJI Pilot 2, with a field of view of around 180°. A millimetre-wave radar measures the height above the water to the millimetre, from 0.5 to 10 m. The winch monitors cable tension and length, contact with the bottom, reverse winding and motor stall. In an emergency, a cut-off melts the cable in under 10 seconds to free the drone. The health management system (HMS) reports faults and winch maintenance.

Containers: PMMA for routine work, stainless steel for PFAS

The standard container is made of PMMA bonded with an ultra-low VOC adhesive and weighted with 316L stainless steel: 2 L on the Matrice 400, 1 L on the Matrice 350 / 300 (1.2 L as an option). For PFAS analysis, the 1 L 304L stainless steel container limits leaching and adsorption of these compounds; AIRINS has had it laboratory-validated at ppt level. One container per sample; additional containers are ordered separately. Accessories for the Matrice 400 and the Matrice 350 / 300 are not interchangeable.

Maintenance and operating limits

After each mission, wipe off any remaining water and let the unit dry completely before long-term storage. A strong current reduces the depth actually reached; water heavily laden with sediment can make the container leak at its seals. On the Matrice 400, the drone’s built-in radar is disabled during sampling, and on the Matrice 350 / 300 the downward infrared sensor is covered with a sticker supplied. Water on the ports is not covered by the warranty.

Warranty

Warranty. Standard one-year warranty. The extension can only be purchased with the initial order, at 20% of the total product value per additional year, up to two years of extension. After the warranty period, the hardware and software remain fully usable.
