Dronavia Kronos: parachutes and flight termination systems for DJI drones

Dronavia designs the Kronos safety systems, which combine a recovery parachute with a flight termination system (FTS). If control is lost, the FTS cuts the motors and the parachute deploys to slow the fall and reduce the energy of the impact with the ground.

Drone Parts Center is an official Dronavia reseller. We sell Kronos systems and offer installation, annual maintenance and POD exchange after a deployment.

Which Kronos for which drone?

All our Kronos systems are listed in the Parachutes category.

Installation, maintenance and rearming

After a deployment, the system is returned to service by replacing the POD; the Kronos M350, M30 and I3 also need a new CO2 cartridge. The Kronos MVC3, MVC4 and M4 share the same POD, the Kronos Mini POD; the Kronos M4D has its own POD.

  • Internal FTS installation on the Mavic 3, Mavic 4, Matrice 4 and Matrice 4D
  • Annual maintenance of the Kronos I3, M350, M3D and the Mini range (MVC3, M4, MVC4, M4D)
  • POD exchange for the Kronos I3, M350, M3D, M4D and the Mini range
  • Kronos Mini/Nano rearm kit, 4 g CO2 cartridges (Inspire 3, Matrice 30) and 8 g CO2 cartridges (Matrice 350)
  • FTS removal and reinstallation before the drone is sent to DJI after-sales service (Mavic 3, Mavic 4)

Parachutes and regulations

A parachute is not required for every flight. To fly under standard scenario STS-01 (specific category, visual line of sight, up to 120 m, over a controlled ground area, including in populated environments), the drone must carry a C5 class label, required since January 1, 2024. For this, Dronavia offers Kronos kits that combine a parachute and flight termination: an accessory kit for a C3 class drone and a conversion kit for a C2 class drone.

Outside the standard scenarios, in a SORA assessment, a parachute that meets the EASA means of compliance MoC Light-UAS.2512 counts as a ground risk mitigation (M2): it can lower the ground risk class used in the authorization application.

Dronavia states that its Kronos kits comply with the means of compliance published by EASA: MoC Light-UAS.2511 for flight termination and MoC Light-UAS.2512 (M2) for the parachute. Details for each model are given on its product page.

Frequently asked questions

Is a parachute mandatory?

Not for every flight. To fly under standard scenario STS-01, the drone must carry a C5 class label, required since January 1, 2024; Kronos kits, which combine a parachute and flight termination, are used to obtain it. In a SORA assessment, a compliant parachute counts as a ground risk mitigation (M2).

Which DJI drones does the Kronos range cover?

The Matrice 350 RTK, the Matrice 30 and 30T, the Inspire 3, the Matrice 4E and 4T, the Matrice 4D with the Dock 3, the Matrice 3D, the Mavic 3 and the Mavic 4 Pro.

What needs to be done after a parachute deployment?

The system is returned to service by replacing the POD; the Kronos M350, M30 and I3 also need a new CO2 cartridge. We offer POD exchange for the Kronos I3, M350, M3D, M4D and the Mini range.

Do you offer maintenance for Kronos systems?

Yes. We offer annual maintenance for the Kronos I3, M350, M3D and the Mini range (MVC3, M4, MVC4, M4D), as well as FTS removal and reinstallation before a Mavic 3 or Mavic 4 is sent to DJI after-sales service.

Is Drone Parts Center an official Dronavia reseller?
